Booster Dose Recommendations for Covid-19: Ministry of Health Urges Population, Especially 50+ and Pregnant Women, to Act

The Ministry of Health of the Nation called on the entire population to apply booster doses against covid-19, especially people aged 50 or over and pregnant women, as they are the groups at highest risk for developing serious forms of the disease, the health ministry reported yesterday.

According to the federal vaccination registry, there are more than 10 million people within that age group who have not received any booster dose for more than 6 months.

The recommendation to apply the booster vaccine after six months is also supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), which highlights it as the most effective tool to confront the disease.

The national health portfolio recalled in an official statement that, beyond people having the complete primary regimen, the strategy to reinforce vaccines against covid-19 “is essential to maintain adequate protection in order to prevent complications, hospitalizations and deaths from this disease.”

In this context, it is strongly recommended that those who are within groups at high risk of developing severe forms of the disease, such as people aged 50 or older and pregnant people, receive a booster dose against covid-19 if they already 6 months elapsed since the last dose applied, regardless of the number of boosters previously received.

Meanwhile, people under 50 years of age with comorbidities (chronic diseases and obesity) and people with a higher risk of exposure (health personnel) and strategic function are included in the medium risk group of experiencing serious illness or death due to infection with covid-19.

“The recommendation is that if you have already received a booster in the last 6 months, remember the importance of applying an annual booster,” they said.

Finally, people considered at low risk of complications, that is, those under 50 years of age without comorbidities, are recommended an annual booster vaccination against covid-19.
