Bonn brings Javontae Hawkins back / Only Berlin without reinforcements / Three clubs with three late registrations

The German champions ALBA BERLIN are the only club in the league that has not yet signed a player after the start of the season, while Weißenfels, Chemnitz and Oldenburg have already registered three professionals. The first transfer phase ends today, Tuesday, February 28th. Earlier on Monday, Bonn announced that Javontae Hawkins was coming back.

A total of four players may be registered in a season up to the end of February; If a club has not exhausted the four possibilities, it could register a maximum of one further player by the end of March. All other options not used by the end of February will expire. This rule is intended to prevent the distortion of competition that a club that is in the relegation battle simply brings in four high-class professionals for around three months in March (and only has to pay for this short time) in order to try to achieve the necessary victories for to sneak up to the league.

Here is the overview for the current season. The first number shows how many players the clubs have registered, the second shows how many players the clubs can still register by February 28 (midnight):

0/4: Berlin
1/3: Bayreuth, Bonn, Crailsheim, Göttingen, Hamburg, Rostock
2/2: Bamberg, Braunschweig, Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Ludwigsburg, München, Ulm, Würzburg
3/1: Chemnitz, Oldenburg, Weißenfels

Five clubs have also announced before or during the FIBA break that they have signed players: Hamburg has signed US Guard jordans davis reinforced (and split from Kendale McCullum), Bayreuth with the American point guard Otis Livingston II from Crailsheim, Ludwigsburg has the New Zealander Sam Waardenburg as a replacement for the injured Jeff Roberson (torn cruciate ligament) and Heidelberg brought in De’Jon Davis through the Australian winger Jack McVeigh replaced. Bonn has Javontae Hawkins brought back (the Telekom Baskets press officer Pascal Gediga, who plays in the amateur division, had previously reported).

None of the five players has been reported to game director Dirk Horstmann. This is usually done when the next game is still a little way off. Then the committed player can train, but he is only reported to the game manager on the day before the first league appearance. Should he injure himself in the meantime, this would not fall under one of the four permitted late entries.
