Bogotá Announces Agreement with Sinovac to Build First Vaccine and Biological Factory in Colombia by May 2023

Sinovac was chosen as the winner by the government of Bogotá among 15 biopharmaceutical companies from around the world invited to participate in the selection process. Among the reasons, they explained, was being a biopharmaceutical company with extensive experience in research and development in the production of vaccines, as well as having an excellent history of building this type of plants.

Through the entry of this strategic partner, the technological transfer and technical assistance from Sinovac to ‘BogotáBio’ is contemplated, to build a plant that allows the local production from start to finish (including the production of the antigen), biologicals for humans, starting with vaccines. against Covid-19, Hepatitis A, Chicken Pox and Polio.

The District is expected to invest $450,000 million for infrastructure, equipment, and the pre-operational stage, while Sinovac will invest $374,000 million between 2024 and 2033, mainly in providing the knowledge to manufacture the vaccines.
