The Brotherhood of Blood Donors of Badajoz and the Blood Bank of Extremadura have a blood donation scheduled for Wednesday, April 7 at the University Residence of Fundación CB in Badajoz, known as the Rucab.

The registration period is open until April 5. Reservations can be made from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 at the Rucab reception or on the phone 824 908 521. The donation will take place from 16:30 to 20:00.

To be a blood donor it is necessary to be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh at least 50 kg, and not be fasting or have eaten excess fat in the previous two hours. Men can donate blood a maximum of four times a year and women three times a year. A minimum of two months must pass between each blood donation.

Good health is also required, with several reasons for exclusion:

  • Having suffered from herpes zoster, infectious mononucleosis, toxoplasmosis, having visited an endemic area for malaria or Chags disease and being asymptomatic, or having had childbirth or abortion in the previous six months.
  • Living with a patient with hepatitis B, hepatitis C or HIV infection, or having performed piercing, tattooing or acupuncture in the previous four months.
  • Having received treatment in Proscar or Propecina or Racután in the last month.

It is necessary to consult with the collection staff if you have had any type of minor surgery in the last week, if you have allergies and are in an allergic period, if you are asthmatic, or if you are taking any type of medication.

After the donation, avoid standing for a long time during the next two hours, and avoid making efforts with the arm. You should also drink plenty of fluids in the next four hours, except alcohol; likewise, one should not smoke, especially in the following two hours. In addition, it is recommended not to drive or carry out work that involves risk in the hour following the donation, or to expose yourself to the sun or high temperatures for a long time.
