Access to Île d’Orléans hampered by wear and tear on the bridge

While the merchants of Île d’Orléans recorded a record tourist influx this summer, umpteenth repair work on the old bridge dating from 1935 caused significant traffic slowdowns.

It almost feels like the time of apples before time. In recent days, long lines of vehicles in the direction of the island bridge have been settling, sometimes as far as the large curve of the highway of the Capital.

There are also rows of cars on Boulevard Saint-Anne, to access the island, and on Chemin Royal, to exit.

The cause: a series of metal plates affixed to the roadway at the southern end of the island bridge, as part of reconstruction work on five deck joints.
