Sommaruga met Trump for an interview. Despite the United States’ withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement, it challenged him to set its own climate targets.

“Remember?” Was the title of Tuesday’s front page and showed US President Donald Trump (73) how he held up the VIEW with his portrait two years ago.
–
Now he was again at the center of the WEF – together with another person who embodies the opposite: climate activist Greta Thunberg (17).
–
Trump delivers a flaming campaign speech and calls into the hall: “The American dream is back!” He rattles off dozens of numbers from the teleprompter, which are intended to prove how the country had found its way back from misery to glory under his leadership.
–
Unemployment at its lowest level in history, new factories built, jobs created, childcare cheaper, taxes more moderate, bureaucracy contained, the air cleaner, the water clearer – the USA, a paradise on earth!
–
And thanks to him, Donald J. Trump, the 45th President of the United States!
–
Trump preaches economic growth and attacks warners head-on before a climate catastrophe: “We never let radical socialists decide about us!”
–
The most famous warner is Greta. The Swedish girl appears shortly after Trump and angrily speaks to the powerful in her conscience.
–
“How can you be responsible to your children for doing nothing?” She says. Or: “You only talk and don’t change anything!”
–
Their controlled outbursts of anger are picked up by as many cell phones as Trump’s self-adulation. Both are happenings, and neither of them really understood the «spirit of Davos»: that it is about approaching each other.
–
Pessimist Greta, Optimist Trump – and then there is Simonetta Sommaruga (59), who, as Federal President, delivers the traditional opening speech.
–
Sommaruga turns out to be small or rather: big Greta: “The world is on fire” – the world is burning! She also appeals to decision-makers in the best manner of activists, that they should finally act.
–
The Federal President misses the chance to promote Switzerland in front of the world. Our country does not appear in your speech! And that she forgets to congratulate WEF founder Klaus Schwab (81) on his 50th anniversary is at least rude.
–
After all, Sommaruga has a clear message that everyone understands and she speaks English that everyone understands. Sounds obvious, but it is not: In previous years, the opening speech was often embarrassing more than magistral.
