On Friday, the Pole sat behind the wheel of the car Alfa Romeo during the first practice before the Bahrain GP. Kubica dialed the time 1:30: 732. Eventually he finished training in 13th place, ahead of, among others team mate, Italian Antonio Giovinazzi or McLaren driver Lando Norris.
He lost 1,699 seconds to the best session time. The Pole was just over 0.1 seconds behind Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Kubica’s result can be pleased as it looks like he felt good in the car and did the job the team demanded of him.
Kubica revealed why he is not currently driving in F1. “People think I’m not fast”
After both training sessions, the Pole was asked by the Italian TV station “Sky” about his future in F1, and threads about his current situation and what happened in the past were also raised.
– Everything is at the stage of creation, we will see what the future will bring. First you have to see, I will be doing as a driver, where I will be driving and then we will see if it will be possible to combine it with the current role – announced Kubica, quoted by the portal powrotroberta.pl.
Later in the speech, the Polish driver referred to why there is no place for him in F1 now? – Because people think I’m not fast. Last year has its consequences. If it had turned out differently, we would probably not be talking now, but would have been driving on the track. I do not want to go into details, but I think that this year I have shown that I can drive if I have the conditions for it and I am not far behind other drivers – continued Kubica.
– In Hungary I drove a car for the first time in 6 years. I had my time 3 and I did 150 laps at 40 degrees. And maybe I was missing a few tenths on a single wheel. […] When you train, you need time. Last year, I could point out specific situations, but let’s just say it was just heavy. And then come days like Barcelona 2020. […] And I am able to spin fast wheels – concluded the Polish driver.
This is not the last time Kubica appears on the F1 track this season. The Pole still has a chance to participate in training before the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which will end the starts in 2020.
