The council of ministers approved the new Energy decree. The provision does not contain the extension of the protected market. Therefore, from January 1st the end of the maximum protection regime for gas and at the same time the auctions for new operators on theelectric energy. For the latter, however, the actual transition to the free market should take place during next summer, thanks to a “technical” extension which the Minister of the Environment, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, is working on. The provision could arrive at a later date.
The goal is to continue to protect at least as much as possible 5 million of people with electricity prices controlled byEnergy Authority, which they have protected from exaggerated increases in recent years. Discussions on the solution are underway between the European Union and the Italian government, which concerns compliance with the constraints of the Pnrr (which plans to overcome the maximum protection regime for electricity in 2024).
Another issue is also that of the renewal of hydroelectric concessions. Sector for which Brussels, despite Minister Gilberto Pichetto not confirming, according to sources from the Mase is pushing for the Italian Regions to open international tenders, avoiding possible extensions. Therefore, hydroelectric power also does not appear in the new Energy decree. The EU, however, has nothing to say about its desire to restart drilling in the Adriatic, despite criticism from environmentalists and experts on pollution and little usefulness of the measure. But, returning to the bills, what happens with the end of the greater protection regime? What techniques can be followed to save on the free market?
