Billionaire King of Oyster Sauce Dies, Leaving an Inheritance of IDR 255 Trillion!

Raja Saus Tiram (King of Oyster Sauce), Lee Man Tat recently reported to have died at the age of 91. The billionaire owner of a food company in Hong Kong, Lee Kum Kee, died on Monday accompanied by his family members.

“Mr Lee is an inspiring leader with a unique vision and vision for the future. He constantly brought his views within the company until he succeeded in turning Lee Kum Kee into a world-famous sauce and condiment brand,” the company said in a statement. Thanks to the oyster sauce business, Lee Man Tat left a legacy of $17.6 billion (Rp255 trillion) according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index. It also became the third richest person in Hong Kong in 2019 by Forbes.

Lee and his family own property in a number of countries, such as London, Hong Kong and China. In 1954, Lee joined the company to help his father, Lee Shiu Nan, run the family business.

This company was started by his grandfather, Lee Kum Sheung in 1888. His grandfather first developed his signature oyster sauce in Zhuhai City.

The company’s oyster sauce, Lee Kum Kee, was the product that propelled the company’s growth to become the most famous brand in Hong Kong.
