Merdeka.com – The former richest man in the world and founder of technology giant Microsoft Bill Gates predicts that an effective and mass-produced Covid-19 vaccine will arrive in late 2021.

Launching The Economist via Tekno Liputan6.com, later most of the world’s population will be vaccinated to stop the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nevertheless, Bill Gates said, millions of people are expected to die before the Covid-19 pandemic is over. According to him, 90 percent of deaths during the pandemic were not due to the Covid-19 attack.

Bill Gates said that the deaths of millions of people were not due to the Covid-19 virus, but because of the health system and the world economy that was crippled by the pandemic.

“Lockdown limits people’s access to hospital to treat other types of diseases. For example, malaria or HIV,” said Gates.

Bill Gates through the charity The Bill Gates Foundation has contributed USD 350 million in an effort to deal with Covid-19. However, according to him this donation is not enough.

It takes billions of dollars

“Billions of US dollars must be spent to produce the Covid-19 vaccine, in order to stop the economic damage which will result in losses of up to trillions of US dollars,” he said.

One of the richest people in the world also said that inaccurate data could make it difficult for officials to assess the severity of the corona cause in many poor countries.

“On August 17, Africa recorded more than 25,000 deaths from Covid-19. In India, nearly 52,000 people died from the disease. However, the actual number of deaths in both places is probably much higher,” he said, quoted by MoneyControl.

30-60 Percent of World Population Should Be Vaccinated

Bill Gates also briefly explained the research on Covid-19 that is currently being carried out. According to him, the research shows that other circulating corona viruses have strengthened protection against Covid-19.

“The novel coronavirus is not as contagious as some other diseases. Approximately 30-60 percent of the world’s population needs to be vaccinated in order to contain this pandemic,” he said.

Apart from that, Gates is grateful that the population of people who must be vaccinated to avoid Covid-19 is not as much as the population to avoid measles.

According to Gates, to get rid of measles, 90 percent of the world’s population must be vaccinated in order for the virus to completely disappear. As for Covid-19, the population being vaccinated is around 30-60 percent.
