Big money in the city – Dresden doubles the parking fees! – Dresden

Dresden – Going into the city by car – it will be expensive! After 14 years of stable fees, the town hall is turning the price screw for its 10,000 urban parking spaces. Drivers have to dig deeper into their pockets …

For this purpose, Mayor Raoul Schmidt-Lamontain (43, Greens) reorganized the parking zones. From 2021, the hourly rate will double in Zone 1 (inner city: Waisenhausstrasse – Elbe-Zwinger – St. Petersburger Str.) From 1.50 euros to 3 euros.

The daily rate of 6 euros (3 euros on Sundays) will soon be completely eliminated. The hourly rate continues to apply – theoretically 72 euros for 24 hours of city parking! “But we don’t want people to park their cars in the city all the time. We want high fluctuation and short-term parkers, ”explains Schmidt-Lamontain.

Party parking in Neustadt is also becoming more expensive. If you have previously been able to park for free between midnight and 9 a.m., 2 euros / hour will soon apply. The daily rate also increases from 3 to 8 euros.

The trigger of the long-discussed fee increase are the increased public transport prices, which are more expensive than the previous city parking (single trip: 2.50 for 1 zone and 1 hour) and “set the wrong signs for those who want to use the bus and train pay more than drivers, ”says Schmidt-Lamontain. E-cars and car sharing vehicles park the first two hours free of charge in all zones.

With the hourly rate of 3 euros, Dresden will soon have the most expensive parking fees in Germany after Cologne, Stuttgart and Frankfurt / Main (4 euros / h). Leipzig is also currently discussing the hourly rate of 3 euros.

The increase, which has yet to be approved by the city council, is expected to bring EUR 20 million more income into the city treasury annually. When the new tariff takes effect also depends on how quickly the 450 ticket machines can be changed over by hand.
