Biden is committed to “liberating” Iran and the White House confirms its solidarity with the protesters

US President Joe Biden promised Thursday to “liberate” Iran and said protesters working against the country’s government would soon be able to free themselves.

“Don’t worry, we’ll liberate Iran. They’ll liberate soon,” Biden said during a large-scale campaign in California as dozens gathered outside carrying banners in support of Iranian protesters.

Biden did not elaborate on, nor did he specify what additional measures he would take during his observations at Miracosta College near San Diego.

Subsequently, the White House spokesman explained on Friday that President Biden was “expressing his solidarity” with the protesters when he said, “We will liberate Iran.”

The statement sparked an angry reaction from the Tehran regime and went beyond the previous president’s carefully worded policy so as not to indicate direct US involvement in the protest movement.

The White House reported that Biden was expressing support for the protest movement and was not suggesting a new approach.

“President Biden once again expressed our solidarity with the Iranian protesters,” said John Kirby, communications coordinator for the US National Security Council, adding that the Iranian leadership “is facing problems of its own making.”

He continued: “The president has been very clear on this, we will continue to look for ways to hold the regime accountable for the way it treats its people.”

Kirby said that “the United States has no indication that the Iranian regime is about to fall”.

On Wednesday, the United States said it would seek to remove Iran from the 45-member UN Commission on the Status of Women due to the government’s denial of women’s rights and brutal crackdown on protests.

Iran has just started a four-year term on the committee, which meets annually in March and aims to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.
