Marte Olsbu Røiseland is the grand ladies of the biathlon world championships, which end this Sunday in Antholz-Anterselva (Italy). The 29-year-old Norwegian concluded her Worlds on a high note, winning the title in the 12.5-kilometer individual race (mass start). This is his seventh medal in seven races, the third gold.
However, Røiseland had started badly, making two faults in the first two shots. But then she signed a faultless. She launched an assault on the last loop with a delay of 14 seconds over the Italian Dorothea Wierer, and she quickly reduced the gap, before literally dropping her opponent a few hundred meters from the finish .
In the end, Røiseland won 20”7 ahead of Wierer and 26”1 over Sweden’s Hanna Öberg. Only Swiss at the start, Aita Gasparin, the youngest of the three Grisons sisters, finished 21st (out of 30), with a delay of 2’37”8 (4 marksmanship).
