Bethesda Takes Action Against Starfield Leak: Arrest Made and Physical Copies Sold Illegally

Leaks are by no means unique, and rather we are basically used to them and we suspect that they will appear with perhaps every other game, but some situations are definitely unique. A few days ago we informed you and warned that physical copies of Starfield had reached some players prematurely and that the internet had started to fill with spoilers and videos. Bethesda has not only taken action against this material, but also against its source and originator. This is 29-year-old Darin Harris, who was arrested on August 24, because he was not only responsible for the publication of the already mentioned recording. And to make matters worse, he made the police’s job much easier.

Harris was tracked down by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee and charged with felony theft between $2,500 and $10,000, misdemeanor theft of $1,000 or less and misdemeanor possession of marijuana, according to the website. Also, the leak itself, if you didn’t notice it, was rather odd. In addition to being rather shoddily filmed with a cell phone, Harris seemed to be unfamiliar with the game and gameplay itself in general. This was echoed in the comments from viewers, so Harris filmed and released another video where he pointed to the camera and did a small “review”. In it, he apologized to Todd Howard, mentioned that he was no expert but wanted to try it out, and stated that Starfield was a good game. He almost went out on his own with this revelation, but that’s still not all.

But how do the aforementioned allegations relate to the Starfield leak? Of course, Harris didn’t get his hands on the game legally, plus he had multiple copies that he tried to sell on the Japanese Mercari site. It was not only the standard edition, but also the collector’s Constellation Edition. Harris tried to prove to everyone that he really has the game and his shots are real, and he obviously didn’t have enough attention, so as a bonus he also filmed how to pay for shipping by FedEx and a whole bunch of other videos. It gradually began to disappear, but unsurprisingly it did not save Harris. However, how he got hold of the physical copies of the game is not publicly known.
