Pizza is clearly one of the favorite foods of Germans. There are dozens of restaurants and delivery services in every city and there are several thousand pizzerias across Germany. Some swear by a thick crust, for others it has to be thin and crunchy. But where is the best pizza?
In Italy, where elsewhere, gastronomy specialists choose the best restaurants every year when it comes to pizza. They test in restaurants all over the world and, on this basis, create a ranking of the best pizzerias, which they publish on the site “50toppizza.it“publish. In their test, they use various criteria: taste, products used, service, environment, equipment, waiting time and beverage selection.

The first place goes to the pizzeria “I Masanielli” by Francesco Martucci. It is located in Caserta, Italy, near Naples. The restaurant, repeatedly included in the best lists, is particularly known for its “Pizza Futura di Marinara” with tomatoes, wild garlic pesto, capers and anchovies.
In second place the pizzeria “Una Pizza Napoletana” in New York, followed by the “Peppe Pizzeria” in Paris. The first offers its pizzas with the thick crust typical of America, while the second impresses with particular creations such as pizza with truffles and hazelnuts. All three favorites basically make the famous Neapolitan pizza.

Three German pizzerias in the ranking
Looking at the top 10 shows that Naples really seems to be the pizza capital of the world. The city appears in the top 100 four times, plus neighboring Caserta with three places. Five pizzerias, on the other hand, make the list of the best in New York and Rome – but only one each in the top 10. London and Tokyo are also represented with four restaurants.
And what about German pizza lovers? After all, they don’t seem completely in the tube. Three restaurants are in the top 100. The best-placed German pizzeria is “Pizzazulù” in Fürth, Bavaria (34th place). Here too the pizzas are prepared in the Neapolitan style. Two other German pizzerias, “Malafemmena” and “Futura Neapolitan Pizza”, land in 67th and 98th place, both located in Berlin.
