Discovery historical things emerging during 2023. Some of them have been a mystery for some time thousand last year.
Some discoveries are found using conventional methods such as digging in the ground, but others also require the help of advanced technology and even artificial intelligence.
The following is a list of the best archaeological discoveries in 2023 quoted from CNN:
1. The eternal shine of a 3,000 year old German sword

Archaeologists discovered an octagonal sword in sparkling condition during excavations in Bavaria, Germany. This ancient object is thought to originate from the Bronze Age around 3,000 years ago.
The discovery of the sword attracted the attention of archaeologists and required further examination when it was discovered at a site in Donau-Ries, Germany.
Statements from researchers later confirmed that this was not a ceremonial or decorative weapon, but a real weapon, with “the center of gravity at the front of the blade indicating that the blade was balanced primarily for slashing”, citing CNN.
2. The oldest sandals in the world
New analysis from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Alcala University in Spain reveals that 22 woven sandals first discovered by Spanish miners in 1857 are much older than previous carbon dating findings.
The sandals were first carbon dated in the 1970s and are estimated to be 5,000 years old. However, recent analysis estimates that it is 1,000 years older than that.
In September, researchers announced that the footwear, made from plant fibers, was actually the oldest footwear in Europe.
3. A 2,400 year old noble’s sophisticated toilet
In February, archaeologists released details about the world’s oldest flush toilet.
The 2,400-year-old toilet and bent pipe – likely a status symbol among China’s nobility at the time – were discovered last summer in the ruins of a palace at the Yueyang archaeological site in the city of Xi’an.
The toilet was likely only used by a handful of nobles, according to researcher Liu Rui, who helped excavate the fragments. Liu said the design would likely require the help of a maid to pour water each time it is used.
4. The hidden passage of the Egyptian Pyramids

In recent years, the Great Pyramid of Giza has revealed several secrets, including the mysterious ‘void chamber’ thanks to the Sccan Pyramids project.
The project uses technologies such as infrared thermography and cosmic ray imaging to gain a better understanding of the architecture and hidden areas of the pyramid. The latest discovery is a 9 meter long hallway close to the main entrance.
According to Mostafa Waziri, head of Egypt’s Supreme Council of Antiquities, the chamber may have been built to redistribute the load around the entrance or perhaps to open access to an unknown chamber.
An article published in the scientific journal Nature states that further study of the corridor could help scientists better understand the process of creating the pyramids.
