Beskydy Václavák is guarded by soldiers and police. Finally, it’s quiet for a while, the locals react

The patrols were present not only on the access roads to the hiking trails leading up, but also upstairs, where now only local people are allowed to enter due to government measures – ie the citizens of Trojanovice from the north and the inhabitants of Prostřední Bečva from the south.

Extremely beautiful weather, warm sun and the azure Saturday sky attracted dozens of locals to Pustevny, who took advantage of the situation with gusto. There was no sign of the flowing crowds of people, confectionery stalls and fairground trinkets in the area on Saturday at noon. The fact that people who met upstairs greeted each other from a distance also testified to the fact that everything is different.

“Normally we don’t go here, because Pustevny has turned into an amusement park in the last three decades. But we could not miss this opportunity. It’s great that we only meet our neighbors from the village here, “said one of the residents of Prostřední Bečva, who went upstairs.

Before that, however, he had to submit to two police checks – the first time down in Prostřední Bečva and the second time at the Libušín cottage in Pustevny, where the border between the cadastres of the two mentioned municipalities leads.

“The police only verified that we really have a permanent residence here. They behaved very correctly, “he said.

Another man said that the prevailing situation was, in a way, paradoxically favorable for Pustevny. “It’s excellent, Pustevny will take a break from the crowds of tourists and nature will relax. Finally, there is peace, as befits a national cultural monument, “said another man from Prostřední Bečva.

“Today and tomorrow there are a lot of locals going here, even a neighbor who hasn’t been here for five years because of the crowds of tourists, because Pustevny has really turned into a kind of amusement park lately,” added his partner.

While most of the refreshment stalls in Pustevny have remained closed for understandable reasons, the recently renovated Libušín cottage has left at least a window open for people to refresh themselves.

“Such a situation, that it is a beautiful Saturday morning and there is almost no foot in Pustevny, except for a few locals, has never been here before. The fact that the police stop people who walk in the mountains seems completely crazy to me, “said the cottage operator Jakub Nykl.

He believes that during the weekend, the police officers who serve him will buy coffee or tea at least in the window, as well as several local people who came to Libušín for refreshments.
