Berlin starts TXL renovation in 2021: “Worldwide unique opportunity for a metropolis” – Districts – Berlin

Philipp Bouteiller – alone on the TXL runway. Half a year ago it would have been the occasion for a major police operation: A jogger in the middle of the 60-wide runway at Berlin’s Tegel Airport.

In January 2021 nobody cares anymore, at most the hares turn up their nose offended by the disturbance. The man who was enjoying his life there was Philipp Bouteiller, the managing director of “Tegel Projekt GmbH”. This is the public company under whose leadership the conversion of the former TXL airport into a modern research and business park with 30,000 jobs will be created.

Also the move in of up to 2000 students the Beuth University in Terminal A, the main building of the airport, will take place under the project management of this company.

And then there is also the Schumacher quarter in the east of the huge area, with apartments for 10,000 people.

“A worldwide unique opportunity for a European metropolis”, raves the 52-year-old Philipp Bouteiller on the phone of the Reinickendorf newsletter from Tagesspiegel. The last aircraft took off from Tegel on November 8, 2020. The airport’s operational obligation ends six months later.

From May 2021 onwards, pieces can be the area will be transferred from the airport company to the Tegel-Projekt-GmbH. It includes more than 100 buildings. And Philipp Bouteiller was understandably happy about all of this when he jogged down the deserted piste in the first few days of the new year – one can only wish a “good start”.

As a reminder: In January 2021 almost 190 trees will be felled at the airport so that the construction site entrance will be ready by March. Read more here in the Tagesspiegel.
