Berlin and Paris made a statement on Donbass

Foreign ministries of the two states reacted to the deterioration of the situation in the east of Ukraine

The foreign ministries of the two states announced their readiness to continue negotiations in the Normandy format.

Germany and France are following developments in eastern Ukraine, as well as on the Russian-Ukrainian border, and are calling for a stabilization of the situation. This is stated in the joint statement The foreign ministries of the two states, published on Saturday, April 3, on the website of the French department.

Thus, diplomats expressed concern about an increase in the number of violations of the ceasefire in Donbas, established in July 2020.

“We are following the situation with great diligence, including the movements of Russian troops, and call on the parties to restrain and immediately de-escalate tensions,” the document says.

In addition, the countries, as mediators in the Normandy format negotiations, announced their intention to continue their efforts to fully implement the Minsk agreements.

Also in a statement, the foreign ministries of the two states welcomed the extension of the mandate of the OSCE Special Observer Mission in Ukraine and called for “the end of restrictions on its freedom of movement so that the OSCE SMM could carry out its mission in accordance with its mandate.”

Finally, both France and Germany have expressed unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.

As reported, the day before, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, for the second time in three days, discussed the deterioration of the situation in Donbass with the OSCE – the diplomat made a phone call with the current chairman of the organization, Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde.
