Bencho Benchev, a former BSP municipal councilor, acquitted of all charges

The municipal councilor from Burgas Bencho Benchev has been acquitted of all charges, it became clear from the decision of the Burgas district court, BNR reported.

Initially, the Burgas District Prosecutor’s Office requested a two-year suspended sentence with a three-year probation period. According to the indictment, in August 2018 on the territory of Greece and Turkey Bencho Benchev helped Dimitar Zhelyazkov – Ochite to avoid criminal prosecution. He provided transport for his movement between the two countries and reserved a hotel room for him.

According to Benchev’s defense, the charges against him should be dropped due to lack of indisputable evidence. His lawyer claims that during the meeting in Greece with Mityo Ochite, Benchev did not know that he was wanted by the state.

In addition, crossing the border between Greece and Turkey, they passed through the border control without hindrance.

The Burgas District Court ruled not guilty on all charges.

The paid guarantee in the amount of BGN 50,000 will be returned to him. The sentence can be protested or appealed within seven days before the Burgas District Court.
