Belgian strangles partner in holiday home in Lloret De Mar and g …

In Lloret de Mar, Spain, a man reported himself to the police after strangling his wife. The man and the victim have Belgian nationality and are in their fifties, Spanish media report.

The man had gone to the police station in Lloret De Mar around 10 a.m. Monday morning, where he confessed to a crime. After some questioning, it turned out that he had strangled his partner in their vacation home. Police then moved with medical staff to Paseo Maritim, where the lifeless body of a middle-aged woman was found in the home she shared with the suspect.

The man, like his partner in fifties with Belgian nationality, was arrested on suspicion of murder. Police are continuing to investigate the case and have already had the victim’s body examined to verify the cause of death.

38 women have been killed this year

“Lloret is mourning today,” said Mayor Jaume Dulsat, announcing a minute’s silence after the death. The case is particularly heavy in Spain, as 38 women have already been killed by their partner or ex-partner this year. Sexual violence is a major problem in the country and the police have made it a priority.

The most recent victim for the Belgian fifties was a 42-year-old mother of two underage daughters from Sabadell, who was found dead in August. Only in October, after an autopsy on the body, it turned out that she had been violently killed.
