A spokesman for the Minsk militia, Raman Łaszkowicz, stated that the Wasp pistol bang grenades and tear gas were used when people began to show aggression towards the officers. He added that several people were detained; their number is determined.

Earlier, “Nasha Niva” reported on Telegram that the officers used stun grenades to disperse retirees at the Belarusian National State University on the Independence Avenue.

According to this account, the police began to detain students who came out to greet pensioners. They, on the other hand, tried to free them from the hands of the officers. Then explosive grenades flew towards retirees.

On the recording posted by the portal tut.byshows the clashes that took place. One of the policemen visible in the video sprays tear gas at people, and the other pulls out a gun – as portal journalists write, it was a wasp gun – and shoots first in the air and then at one of the protesters.

Tut.by reports that according to witnesses, the pensioners probably managed to rescue the detainees. They surrounded the vehicles of plainly clad men in masks and only let them drive away when, judging by one of the taped videos, one of the retirees was allowed to look inside so that he could see that no one was there.

Another recording shows protesters chanting next to the bus: “Let go!” and “Fascists”. The protesters also threw flowers at the officers’ vehicles.

In the final phase of their march through the city, the retirees reached pl. Jakub Kołas, where they laid flowers at the monument to this poet and writer.

In front of the nearby Clinical Hospital No. 1, employees stood in a row as a sign of solidarity. Two doctors were holding a disposable gown with the name of an anesthesiologist for pediatric surgery, Mikałaj Bruczkouski, fined 135 Belarusian rubles (200 zlotys) on Monday. Retirees going further shouted in their direction: “Thank you!”.

According tut.by the picket of doctors was broken up by policemen. Here too, there were stops and there was a sound resembling an explosion of a stun grenade.

When the security forces left this area, the retirees for some time went on chanting: “We’re still coming.”

There were also fewer protests by pensioners on Monday in other Belarusian cities: Grodno, Brest, Salihorsk, Gomel and Lida.

Earlier, independent media reported that journalists were detained in Minsk, Grodno and Gomel. Łaszkiewicz confirmed to Interfax-Zapad that several journalists were detained and taken to the police station to check their documents.
