“I talk easily with people, but I’m also reserved,” he begins to Van Tongerloo. “Politics has only made it worse. Forming a family is not easy for me. People can already exclude you because of a different political affiliation, but some just don’t want to be with a politician. You have to be able to deal with someone who always gets shit on them.”

The Vooruit chairman is a guest in ‘Bekende Viervoeters’, the online series in which Laurence Van Tongerloo visits familiar faces with a great love for their dog. The Flemish MP further explains that he and his labradoodle Blacky sometimes dance the gnome dance and that the beige curly head is a real Rousseau. “As a child he didn’t listen, he was a heavy teenager and he has weak intestines.”
