Windows 10 computers with version 1809 should no longer receive security updates from mid-May. Shortly before the deadline expires, Microsoft has now announced the extension.

The more than a year old Windows 10-Version 1809 should be provided with security updates until November 10th. That announced Microsoft on his support pages. Support was originally scheduled to end on May 12.

The reason for the plan change is the current corona crisis, Microsoft lets through. “We took a close look at the public health situation and understand the impact it has on our customers,” writes the software company. The planned support out for Windows 10 Home, Pro, Pro Education and other products should therefore be postponed until autumn. The devices will continue to receive monthly security updates.

Windows 10 1809 was released in autumn 2018 and has since been replaced by new versions every six months. Next up is the spring update. However, this has been postponed for the time being – also due to the corona crisis.

To check which version you are currently using, enter the command “winver” in the search bar and press Enter. A window with the system details opens.

Almost simultaneously with the announced support extension, the cumulative updates were also released on April 14th. These are published every second Tuesday of the month and close various security gaps. Users can install the updates automatically or manually. Microsoft promises, among other things, increased security for its office products.
