Fabio Misseroni, 59, and his son Christian, 28, were hiking in the mountains last week when they stumbled upon the bear. The animal bit Christian in the leg and Fabio jumped on the bear’s back. But Fabio also came out of the battle unscathed: he broke his leg in three places. The two eventually escaped because Christian jumped up and clapped his hands to keep the bear away from his father. The bear then ran into the forest.
The DNA, from the wounds and clothes of father and son, is now trying to find the bear. Animal organizations are not happy with this and want the shooting to be postponed until the investigation is finished. Fabio and Christian deny having challenged the bear.
In Italy, confrontations regularly take place between humans and bears. Just last month, a family filmed how a bear suddenly appeared behind 12-year-old Alessandro. He managed to escape by walking quietly away.
