BCA Boss Reveals the Account Breaking Mode by Phone Number

President Director of PT BCA Tbk Jahja Setiaatmadja reveals potential account breach via a phone number that has not been used or has died for a long time. The telephone number can be used by a number of individuals to open the mobile banking application connected to that number.

Jahja explained that the burglary could be done easily if the owner of the old phone number set the mobile banking password with simple or easy to guess letters or numbers. He gave examples such as the date of birth or the number 123.

“Many do not realize that they change their phone number, the old phone number is ignored. That happens if they use a password then someone uses that number again and it turns out that the mobile banking application password is easy, it will be broken,” said Jahja in an online discussion on Digital Payment Systems by CNBC. , Thursday (3/9).


He acknowledged that there have been several incidents of bank fraud in this manner. However, Jahja did not explain in detail how often this mode occurred.

“Please help the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, telephone operators as well, such as Telkomsel, XL, and Indosat, if the number is no longer used, it will really be recorded,” said Jahja.

He suggested that people erase all data from telephone numbers before deciding to change to a new telephone number. Because, currently almost all applications can be connected via telephone numbers.

“It needs to be reminded by old phone holders, the danger of socialization from now on if you want to change phone numbers, old numbers are lost, the data must be deleted. I don’t know how, maybe friends from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics,” said Jahja.

Even so, Jahja said customers don’t need to worry about using digital payment services. This is because the company will replace customer funds if there is an account breach by a number of individuals.

It’s just that, the bank will first trace the breach of the account. If it is proven that it is not the fault of the account owner, management will replace 100 percent of the lost customer funds.

“The bank will replace especially BCA for any losses, as long as it is not the fault of the account owner. But if the pin is intentionally given to someone, the pin number is 123, abcde, it will be breached. We will not compensate for the customer’s negligence,” concluded Jahja.
