BBC president helped Johnson get a loan, according to The Times

London, Jan 22 (EFE) Government will recommend him for the position, revealed this Sunday “The Sunday Times”.

Sharp, a former Goldman Sachs bank manager and Johnson’s adviser during his time as London mayor, introduced Canadian millionaire Sam Blyth to then-government cabinet secretary Simon Case to discuss credit, the newspaper reported.

Both Sharp and Blyth had participated in a dinner at the end of 2020 in which they analyzed formulas to cover the financial problems of Johnson, who had difficulties to cover his expenses with the salary of prime minister – about 165,000 pounds or 188,000 euros.

The former Conservative president, who has seven recognized children with three women, was facing living expenses after divorcing earlier that year and was redecorating the official Downing Street residence.

Blyth offered to act as guarantor of a loan for the prime minister and the current president of the BBC, who has also donated 400,000 pounds to the Conservative Party (455,000 euros), acted as an intermediary, although he did not mention it when applying for a position that required to declare any “conflicts of interest”.

“There is no conflict because I simply connected, at his request, Mr. Blyth with the cabinet secretary and I was not involved in any other way,” the president of the public broadcaster told “The Sunday Times.”

A spokesman for the former prime minister told the newspaper that “Richard Sharp has never offered Boris Johnson any financial advice, nor has Johnson asked him for any financial advice.”

The Labor Party has demanded an “urgent investigation” from the Parliamentary Standards Commission, considering that public officials “should not be placed under any financial or other obligation with respect to individuals or external organizations that may influence the performance of their official tasks “.
