Bargain hunters flocked to a nursery in Duiven today. Always offers decorative materials at a steep discount on Boxing Day if customers help tidy up the Christmas department.

The garden center is known locally for its large Christmas section, writes Omroep Gelderland. As early as August, the company will begin building 8,000 square meters of Christmas splendor.

“Every year it is an enormous amount of work for us to clean up the gigantic Christmas show ourselves. Cutting down all the artificial Christmas trees and putting them in a box, for example, takes a long time,” says manager Gerard Niesink. “So it’s great that our customers are helping us with that.”

It was therefore already busy at the shop before 09:00 this Boxing Day:

Help Break Down the Christmas Ward for a Discount: ‘Save Big’

Extra security had been required to handle the crowds of people.

“Madhouse; we almost had to fight over this,” says a couple who hoot-hoot their way through the crowd with a large artificial Christmas tree. “Normally it costs 450 euros and now we have a 40% discount, so it’s worth it.”

“This was on the shelf and I thought ‘I’ll get this right out’,” says a man who smugly caught a plastic deer, “then it can still go in the garden tonight.”

“This is also the best day of the year for us,” says a store employee who helps dismantle a Christmas village. “People who have really set their sights on a certain house that they don’t have in their collection yet and that was no longer in stock can now take them off the Christmas show here.”

A nutty pizza chef goes with a boy. “I don’t have such a large collection yet, but I really wanted this one in my Christmas village.”

Not everyone is looking for the best deal. “We actually come here to enjoy ourselves,” say two shoppers. “We do it every year, it’s kind of a tradition. Just a nice outing.”
