The Barcelos fair, one of the largest and oldest in the country, was resumed in full on May 28, after a phase in which it was completely closed and another that worked only with the food sector.
In August, with the arrival of many emigrants and an influx of tourists, the Barcelos fair tends to be even more crowded than usual.
The adaptation of the fair to the pandemic implied an increase in the sales area, in order to accommodate the 650 marketers.
The enclosure was fenced and exits and entrances are identified and monitored by Municipal officials and PSP agents.
One-hour queues to enter the Barcelos Fair
To access the enclosure, the use of a mask or visor and the disinfection of hands is mandatory. Disinfectants were made available at the entrances, with automatic dosers, according to the municipality.
Handicraft fairs
Since last week, the Câmara de Barcelos has been promoting a cycle of handicraft micro-fairs, to be held every Thursday in August, at Largo da Porta Nova, between 10:00 and 16:00, which has in order to supply the effects that the covid-19 pandemic had in one of the economic activities that suffered the most from the pandemic, handicrafts.
Each fair is made up of six artisans on a rotating basis, covering as many artisans as possible. They present their work live, drawing the attention of the thousands of people who pass through the city and the Feira de Barcelos.
Handicrafts are an integral part of the culture of Barcelona, inspired by the most varied themes of culture and society and constitute a manifestation of the unique creativity of the craft community, which makes Barcelos, in this context, one of the main references at national level.
