The Spanish club Barcelona published a series of instructions for its fans before traveling to Saudi Arabia to attend the Spanish Super Cup matches.
The instructions recommended showing “respect and wisdom in public behavior… inappropriate behavior may include any act of a sexual nature, and may result in legal consequences for foreigners.”
The club also issued instructions to the LGBT community, explaining that “relations between people of the same sex and showing support for the LGBT community, even on social networking sites, may also lead to penalties,” according to what the Spanish newspaper “AS” reported.
The Catalan club warned fans against alcoholic beverages, drugs and foods made from pork, which are banned in Saudi Arabia, and encouraged the public to “respect customs and avoid public gatherings, especially religious events.”
The newspaper also indicated that the club made clear to its fans wishing to travel to Saudi Arabia to attend matches, that “demonstrations and marches… or any other activities that the government considers to be in violation of the law, are prohibited, as they undermine social peace.”
The instructions also included “warnings against terrorism” and explained that “with regard to terrorism… Saudi Arabia and citizens of Western countries, including Spain, are potential targets for terrorist organizations operating in the country and in neighboring countries.”
The club pointed out that these instructions are in line with what was announced by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Osasuna will play in Saudi Arabia to determine the Spanish Super Cup champion. The tournament will start with the Madrid derby on Wednesday, then the Barcelona and Asasuna match on Thursday, and the two winners will meet in the final next Sunday.
Saudi Arabia is hosting the tournament for the fourth time since it was converted to a new system, with the participation of 4 teams and not a match between the cup and league champions.
Barcelona participates as the Spanish League champion last year, Real Madrid as the cup champion, Osasuna as the runner-up in the cup tournament, and Atletico as the third-place holder in the league (instead of runner-up Real Madrid).
Barcelona has the largest share in the number of Spanish Super Cups with 14 titles, ahead of Real Madrid, which won 12 titles.
