Barcelona dream of appointing Jürgen Klopp to coach Liverpool but have little optimism

|

Barcelona dream of hiring Jurgen Klopp as a coach but they are not overly optimistic about their chances of getting the Liverpool coach reportedly at Camp Nou.

The Catalan side are currently in bad shape under current coach Ronald Koeman and are currently ninth in the league and recent reports in Spain suggest that the issue is when the Dutchman will be sacked, not if.

The potential managers who could bring Barcelona President Joan Laporta to the next row range from younger options like Xavi Hernandez and Andrea Pirlo to more seasoned candidates like Roberto Martinez and Eric ten Hag.

But according to Spanish website Sport, Barcelona ideally see Klopp as the ideal person to take the lead in Catalonia, but even the La Liga giants know those chances are slim.

Klopp has a contract with Liverpool that runs until 2024, with the German revealing his desire to keep this deal in August 2020 – but not to extend it.

Next, the 54-year-old wants to take a year off training before deciding what he wants to do after 12 months – with a retirement from the game an option on the table.

Klopp has already said he will leave Liverpool in 2024 and could retire after a year off

“I’ll take a year off and wonder if I miss football,” Klopp told Sport Buzzer last year when he was asked about his plans for 2024. If I say no, that’s the end of coach Jürgen Klopp.

Klopp has revolutionized Liverpool’s fortunes since taking office in 2015, moving him from midfield on the Premier League table to one of the best clubs in Europe.

The German led Liverpool to the Champions League title in 2019 after reaching the final of that competition last year, and then the Reds won their first Premier League title in 30 years the following season.

Liverpool, led by Klopp, are back in the Premier League title this season and have not lost in their first nine league games this season, but keep one point behind leaders Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Barcelona haven’t won the Champions League in six years – or even reached the final of the competition – an achievement Klopp has done three times in the past eight years.

The Catalan team also went two seasons without a title, losing their captain and talisman Lionel Messi to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer due to the club’s financial problems.
