But it is clear that the Madrid president has once again managed to set the pace of the electoral campaign.

Whatever the result of 4-M, even if Ayuso did not manage to join the opposition, Madrid will continue to be an unbeatable destination from a fiscal point of view. The inertia is too strong. As has been explained many times in this newspaper, Madrid benefits from capital advantages that allow it to impose a lower tax burden on its taxpayers. And at this point this is very difficult to reverse, whoever governs.

Faced with this evidence, as always, the option of kicking remains. The funny sentence of Mas Madrid, which accuses Ayuso of practicing a policy of “sponsor a millionaire”, can be accepted as good. And it can be said, not without reason, that the PP is encouraging a kind of radical Madrid nationalism that is unsupportive with the rest of the autonomies.

But the fact that Madrid is becoming an unsympathetic or unsupportive capital in the eyes of many people in Spain also has its advantages …
