Barbarians in Kampung Bahari as firecrackers and stones are thrown at police

Jakarta

Drug operations in Maritime village, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, met resistance. Attempts to arrest the traffickers were thwarted by stone throwing and firecrackers exploding.

The raid was carried out on Wednesday (11/30/2022). The operation, which originally consisted of a team of 10 people, has gained momentum thanks to resistance from local community members.

Despite the resistance, the drug operations on the spot have not been without success. A total of 6 people were arrested along with a batch of confiscated drug evidence by a joint team of Tanjung Priok Police and North Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

Policemen stoned

Tanjung Priok Police Chief Kompol M. Yamin Revealed the Kampung Bahari Raid tinged with tension. A number of unscrupulous residents pelted the police with stones so that the police had time to retreat due to lack of numbers.

“When I first came in, there were at least 10 drug members thrown (calculation). We will retire to the police,” Yamin said when he was contacted on Thursday (1/12).

The operation then continued with more personnel. However, people continued to throw rocks and firecrackers.

“Lead by the Wakapolres we entered, we were still being hit by stones and firecrackers. As we had all the strength, we dared to pursue them. But if we were a force of 8-10 we would have been surrounded,” Yamin explained.

Resistance code

The explosion of firecrackers also colored the raid on Kampung Bahari. North Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Kombes Wibowo said the launch firecrackers it’s the citizen’s code to prevent the police from coming.

“So this method is the same as before. If there is any police activity related to drug law enforcement, they usually resist their group by throwing firecrackers,” Wibowo said when contacted on Wednesday (11/30).

This code for throwing firecrackers gives a “signal” to the traders of Kampung Bahari as a sign that the police are coming to raid. Drug dealers in Kampung Bahari tend to back off when they see police arriving in large numbers.

“So that’s how it was in Kampung Bahari when they saw some policemen shooting firecrackers as code. But if there were enough (many) staff they backed out,” he said.
