The 7-year-old Isa from Elst has been inconsolable since Monday. That day she lost her special hat in the Intratuin in Duiven. Special, because she has been bald since she was 5.

,,Isa had gone to the Intratuin with grandpa and grandma, but came home without a hat. Since then, my daughter has been very sad,” says Lieke Harmsen. Harmsen tweeted about the cap, hoping to get it back.

Got from grandma
Why does she go to so much trouble for a hat? ,,The hat was special for two reasons; first, it was made of bamboo and had no seams and labels. He protected her bald head without bothering her and because of the bamboo it didn’t get too hot for Isa. But the second, perhaps even more important reason, is that she received the hat as a gift from my recently deceased grandmother,” says Harmsen.

Alopecia
Until she was 5 years old, Isa had a beautiful thick head of hair and beautiful eyebrows. Until I suddenly discovered a bald spot on top of her head. And then another, and another. Within five months my daughter was completely bald. No hair on her arms, no more eyebrows, so completely bald.”

Isa turned out to have the hair condition alopecia. But, Harmsen adds: ,,She doesn’t feel different at all and really just fits in. And her hat belongs to her too”.

So sweet that so many people responded and want to help

Twitter to the rescue
The tweet has since been retweeted more than 415 times in the hopes that the hat will come back. The heartwarming reactions are also pouring in. Several twitterers even suggested buying a new hat for Isa.
–
Harmsen is overwhelmed by the many reactions on Twitter. ,,I haven’t been able to answer them all yet, but we feel really supported by this. So sweet that so many people responded and want to help. It’s not that we don’t have the money for it, but it’s really about the emotional value for us.”
