Baja California Vaccination Campaign: 60% of Covid-19 doses administered to children ages 5-11

In Baja California, 60% of the first batch of doses against Covid-19 for children between the ages of five and 11 have been applied as part of the vaccination campaign that began a week ago, the state Health Secretariat reported.

Until noon this Tuesday, 1,825 vaccines had been applied in the state, between first and second doses, as well as reinforcements. Of the total, 1,12 were applied in Tijuana.

The campaign began on August 30 after the return to school and the Secretary of Health in Baja California, Adrián Medina Amarillas, indicated that they would begin to use a first batch of three thousand doses of 10 thousand that will arrive in the state.

From Thursday, August 31, until noon this Tuesday, around 70 minors had attended the module installed in the Issstecali clinic in the Las Palmas neighborhood, said Ana Miriam Hernández, one of the nurses in charge of the vaccination site.

He mentioned that most of the mothers who bring their children found out about the campaign through social networks.

Alejandra took her six-year-old daughter to receive the first dose of the vaccine and said that her sister was the one who told her about the vaccination campaign.

She mentioned that so far the school her daughter attends has not detected Covid-19 infections, but her six-month-old nephew who attends a nursery did get it.

Karen Arce, another mother, took her eight-year-old daughter to receive the third booster of the vaccine after seeing the announcement on social networks.

He added that the primary school attended by the minor had not been informed about the vaccination campaign.

In Tijuana, the vaccination points that will continue to be active until September 8 are the Health Services Jurisdiction, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and the Issstecali clinics located in Las Palmas and Mariano Matamoros, 8 a.m. :00 to 1:00 p.m.

Ana Miriam Hernández said that given the low influx of minors during the mornings, they began to schedule the application of the vaccine in order not to waste the doses.

He added that most people start arriving after noon, once the infants are out of school.
