Bad luck for Princess Sofía during Mallorca holiday

In the town of Petra the royal holiday guests visited the birthplace and museum of Father Juníper Serra. This priest played an important role in the Christianization of Mexico and the American state of California, where he founded a Catholic mission in San Diego, among other places. Juníper Serra (1713-1784) was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1988 and canonized by Pope Francis in 2015.

The people of Petra were in droves to greet King Felipe and his family. However, around the corner from the museum, demonstrations were held against the monarchy. Besides the royal family, Queen Sofia and Princess Elena, Felipe’s eldest sister, also reside in Mallorca.
