A 1-year-old baby died this morning after being hit by a Jeep driven by a woman while crossing a Staten Island street with her mother. the NYPD said.
The girl and her 31-year-old mother were crossing Abbot St. at Scarboro Ave. in the Rosebank neighborhood shortly after 7 am when the white Jeep truck struck the two in the crosswalk.

Parmedics rushed the baby and her mother to Staten Island North Hospital. The girl underwent surgery, but she died about an hour later, police said. The mother was reported in stable condition. Later the infant was identified as Lian Mashni, 20 months old.
The Jeep truck was making a left turn from Scarboro Ave. when the 40-year-old female driver struck them. The woman remained in place. Charges were not immediately filed.
