The emergency services were called out twice in Zoetermeer after several people heard baby noises from underground garbage containers. In both cases it turned out not to be a baby but remote-controlled speakers on which baby sounds were played.
The first reports about baby sounds came in yesterday from the Sanne van Havelteplein. Police then found a speaker in an underground container. This scenario was repeated this morning at the Van Stolberglaan, further in the city. The speakers were remote controlled and wrapped in a garbage bag.
‘No joke’
“This is not something to play a joke with,” said a spokesperson for the The Hague police. An attempt is being made to find out who owns the speakers.
In February could be a newborn baby rescued alive from an underground dumpster in Amsterdam after a local resident called the police after hearing howling. Also in 2014, a baby was rescued from an underground container, also in Amsterdam. The baby’s mother was last August after seven years detained.
