Baby and 73-Year-Old Woman Trapped in Stolen Car in the Bronx

NEW YORK — A baby and a 73-year-old woman experienced a moment of terror when two suspects stole their car in the Bronx, police said.

Authorities say the two suspected thieves ran into a parked Toyota RAV4 Sunday morning in the Parkchester section moments after the driver got out at a store near Olmstead Avenue y Unionport Road. Three passengers aged 73, 37 and 1 year old were sitting inside the vehicle.

The 37-year-old woman managed to escape and get out of the car without injury when the robbers arrived, police said, but the other two victims were trapped inside the car as the suspects fled in it.

Fortunately, their nightmare journey was brief. The two remaining passengers, the baby and the 73-year-old woman, got out of the car a few blocks away, near Rosedale Avenue y Cross Bronx Expressway. No one was hurt.

Police say the robbers took off in the stolen car and eventually abandoned it in University Avenue in the Highbridge section.

The identity or description of the suspects has not been released. If you have information, call confidentially 1-888-57-PISTA.
