This year’s prize for “Show Your Face!” 2021 from the City of Science Darmstadt goes to the 27 girls and women who have teamed up as tournament dancers in the carnival department of the Darmstadt TSG 1846 eV under the name #tsgcrew, for their courage and their creative and artistic skills Use a message of tolerance and openness to the world. The prize is linked to prize money of 1,000 euros. The two second prizes are awarded to initiatives by and for refugees: to the active members of the Asylum District Kranichstein and the committed members of ClandestIni eV, who each receive 500 euros in prize money. The prizes will be presented by Mayor Partsch on November 12th at 4 p.m. in the Centralstation. In addition to a performance by the award winners, the 2G event will be accompanied musically by Hüseyin Aslan. Admission is free.

Mayor Jochen Partsch explains about the decision of the magistrate for the main prize: “The young women and girls showed their heartfelt concerns on a carnival stage, where such serious topics and questions are rather unusual. You have reached a lot of people and courageously opposed racism and exclusion. “Regarding the two second places, Partsch emphasizes:” The active members of the Asylum District Kranichstein support and help refugees on site in everyday life and thus bring a welcoming culture to life. They open doors and build bridges for children and adults. ClandestIni has been campaigning for equal rights for refugees at various levels and in particular politically since 2015. The association strengthens and supports people, among other things with its café as a point of contact. “

The citizen Mohamed W., who selflessly opposed a man in downtown Darmstadt in the summer of 2020, who attacked people in public, showed and shouted the Hitler salute, received an honorary award. Unfortunately, the identity of the committed citizen is so far unknown. Mayor Partsch explains: “The courageous behavior of the citizen W. particularly impressed the jury and the magistrate. He has not ducked away in view of the right-wing extremist behavior on display. ”The public awarding of the prize therefore connects the city with the hope of being able to establish contact with him.
