“Australian Couple Robbed and Scammed of $150,000 on Bali Trip: Beware of myGov Scams”

Australian couple robbed and scammed of over $150,000 in Bali, warns Services Australia of uptick in fraudulent myGov messages. Melbourne social media influencer Anna De Rieu and her partner were robbed of their belongings on their family vacation in Bali. Their details were then used to hack into their myGov account and withdraw $150,000 in government support payments under their name. Several families have also fallen victim to scammers defrauding their myGov accounts by accessing and changing their personal and tax information. Services Australia advises users to remain vigilant of scam emails or texts posing as government officials and telling recipients to click on dodgy links so they can claim a refund or rebate. ScamWatch recommends Australians to recognize scam messages with red flags such as poor grammar or punctuation and hyperlinks included in emails or text messages sent by myGov.
