Attention! Giant Asteroid Wants to Hit Earth June 6, 2022

News.com reported Australia as seen on Sunday (5/6/2022) this asteroid was named Asteroid 2021 GT2. NASA says the asteroid is between 36 and 82 meters wide.

For comparison, 1 KRL carriage is 20 meters long. Therefore, an asteroid of this size could cause serious damage if it hit Earth.

This asteroid will pass Earth within a distance of 3.5 million km. To the layman this seems far away, but to NASA that distance is included in the Earth Close Approaches table.

According to NASA, if an asteroid passes within 7.4 km of Earth of a certain size, it will be considered a potential hazard. According to NASA it is considered close to Earth.

Well, Asteroid 2021 GT2 is considered to be in this category. In NASA’s calculations, this asteroid will pass Earth on June 6, 2022 at 12:35 ET or 23:35 WIB.

In NASA’s calculations, this asteroid will return in 2034. However, the distance is predicted to be 14 million km from Earth, aka 2 times farther.

Until now, NASA has only been able to monitor it. However, they are planning a scenario of hitting the asteroid with a rocket, to change its course.

This test will be carried out in 2022. Asteroid Dimorphos with a width of 161 meters will try to be hit by a rocket.

The asteroid was definitely not destroyed. But NASA want to see if the direction can change.
