Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt announced on Monday on Instagram to have quarantined himself, pending the result of a Covid-19 test last Saturday.
“I woke up like everyone else, I looked at social networks where it says I have the Covid-19. I took a test on Saturday to leave (Jamaica) because I have a job to do. I try to be responsible. So I will stay here, safe. Plus, I don’t have any symptoms, ”Bolt said.
“I’m going to quarantine myself and wait for confirmation to see what the protocol is established by the Ministry of Health. I am going to call my friends who have been in contact with me and tell them to get to safety, quarantine and take things calmly, ”he added.

According to the Jamaica Gleaner media, the most successful athlete in the history of Olympic Games in the sprint, with eight gold medals, was present at a party on Friday on his 34th birthday, attended by several celebrities including footballers Raheem Sterling (Manchester City) and Leon Bailey (Bayer Leverkusen).
A number of photos and videos of the party have since gone viral on social media, as its unmasked attendees are seen performing dance steps without being sufficiently social distanced from each other.
Jamaica has seen a sharp increase in positive coronavirus cases in recent weeks. The country recorded 116 new cases on Sunday, bringing the island’s total to 1,529 and 16 people have died, according to Jamaica Gleaner.
