Athens Stock Exchange: “Dance” billion and soaring listed profits to a 15-year high – 2024-03-30 02:20:23

Explosion profitability and overall a strong picture show the results of those listed on Athens Stock Exchange companies, which prompts stock market analysts to estimate that listed companies will achieve the highest profitability of the last 15 years, since 2007, when profits had reached 11.3 billion euros.

In 2023 the profits of listed companies are expected to exceed the 10.4 billion euros achieved in 2022, while the financial ones are estimated to exceed 4 billion euros, the highest amount since 2008 (4.49 billion euros) and in 2007 (5.42 billion euros).

As stock analysts point out, based on the 20 listed companies that have announced figures for 2023, profitability exceeds 6.08 billion euros, while the estimate for total dividends is now starting to “see” 4 billion euros, as it is expected that the banks also give dividends.

The net profits of the four systemic banks in 2023 amounted to 3.645 billion euros.

A record year, after 2007 (11.3 billion euros), was for the sizes of Greek listed companies in 2022 and they reached 10.4 billion despite the very difficult landscape that prevailed in the international and European economy due to the energy and inflationary crisis.

The net profits of listed companies in 2021 amounted to 4.08 billion euros, in 2020 to 0.67 billion euros, in 2019 to 0.84 billion euros, in 2018 to 1.59 billion, in 2017 to 2, 38 billion euros, in 2016 at 1.71 billion euros and in 2015 at 0.86 billion euros. In 2014 the listed companies showed losses of 3.05 billion, in 2013 profits of 2.49 billion. in 2012 losses of 6.6 billion euros, in 2011 losses of 7.4 billion euros, in 2010 losses of 3.1 billion euros , in 2009 profits of 3.8 billion euros, in 2008 profits of 5.7 billion euros, in 2007 profits of 11.3 billion and in 2006 profits of 8.3 billion euros.

The Dividends

With the amount of 2.93 billion euros, the listed companies rewarded their shareholders in 2023.

In 2009 the listed companies remained at the amount of 2.96 billion euros, while in the last 15 years the largest amount was recorded in 2007 at 5.42 billion euros.

In 2008 there were 4.49 billion in dividends, in 2009 they amounted to 2.96 billion, in 2010 to 1.82 billion euros, in 2011 to 1.19 billion euros, in 2012 to 0.82 billion, in 2013 at 0.57 billion, in 2014 at 0.74 billion, in 2015 at 0.85 billion euros, in 2016 at 1.05 billion, in 2017 at 1.34 billion, in 2018 at 1, 3 billion, in 2018 at 1.3 billion, in 2019 at 2.2 billion, in 2020 at 1.79 billion and in 2021 at 1.75 billion.

The banks

The 4 “systemic” banks have announced their intentions to proceed with distributions in 2023 after a long period of time (2008) and are subject to regulatory approval. If the “green” light is also given by the SSM, which is expected to happen in April, the four systemic banks are expected to give a total of 750 to 800 million euros in dividends, out of the 3.6 billion euros that were the net profits of 2023.

Eurobank CEO Fokion Karavias, although the final picture will take shape in May, estimated a dividend distribution of around 9 cents per share and a distribution of at least 25% of 2023 profits.

Alpha Bank CEO Vassilis Psaltis announced a dividend distribution of 25% on average per year over the period 2024-2026, while for the current year he reiterated the commitment to distribute 5 cents per share from profits (20%) in 2023 subject to the approval of the Supervisor.

In Piraeus, the management “sees” a dividend distribution of 10% of the profits of 2023, 25% of the profits of 2024 and 50% of the profits of 2025 and 2026, while Ethniki will ask the Supervisor for the approval of a dividend of 25- 30% of 2023 profits.

According to Optima, Eurobank aims to distribute a dividend per share of EUR 0.09, National Bank EUR 0.36, Alpha EUR 0.05, Piraeus EUR 0.06 and Optima Bank EUR 0.44, implying a dividend yield 4.8%.
