The Deux-Sèvres prefecture has just announced the signing of an agreement between the police station and the municipal police. In Niort, the municipal agents of the night brigade will soon be equipped with non-lethal weapons.

The national police and the municipal police of Niort are strengthening their collaboration for the maintenance of order. In a press release published on July 6, the prefecture of Deux-Sèvres announced in particular the “development of joint patrols to prevent and reassure” or even the use of video protection.

To achieve this, the night brigade of the municipal police of Niort will be equipped “non-lethal weapons of all types”, announces the prefecture of Deux-Sèvres.

Before being able to use these non-lethal weapons, members of the municipal police night brigade “have been trained and received authorization to wear”, specifies the prefecture.

“In service from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on weekdays and from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays, the main missions of the municipal police will be to monitor public and private roads, municipal buildings and traffic.”, indicates the prefecture of Deux-Sèvres. “It does so through patrols (pedestrian, mountain bike or vehicle) and video protection“, specifies the press release.

In Niort, 21 municipal police officers, 12 ASVPs, 4 of whom are assigned to the Urban Safety Center (CSU) for video protection, as well as 4 administrative staff. Contacted, the prefecture of Deux-Sèvres has not yet detailed the type of armament with which the municipal agents will be equipped.
