The 70-year-old Ghani now holds meetings mainly through video chat because of the outbreak. Personal meetings are said to be on the back burner, although Ghani would still receive some confidants.
An insider says the virus entered the palace through an “infected document.” That would have been sent by another government agency. Employees then developed symptoms of disease and were tested for the virus earlier this month.
The source says some infected employees were still working in the palace when their test results came in. “We had to quarantine them and their families.”
In Afghanistan, 933 people have been found infected with the virus, according to official figures. At least 30 patients have died. In practice, many more people have probably contracted the virus. Not all infections come to light because testing is limited.
