Astronomers Discover Quasi-Moon Orbiting Earth: All You Need to Know About 2023 FW13

LIVE Techno – A group of astronomers discovered a ‘quasi-moon’ or false moon – an asteroid that orbits Earth but is actually gravitationally bound by the Sun.

This thing is called 2023 FW13 and was spotted recently, causing quite a stir among space enthusiasts.

Experts used the Pan-STARRS telescope atop the Haleakala volcano in Hawaii to observe the space rock.

The Sky and Telescope report says that experts believe the object has been orbiting Earth since 100 BC and will continue to do so for at least another 1,500 years.

If all calculations are correct or at least close to correct, 2023 FW13 will be the most stable quasi-Earth-like satellite ever found.

What is a quasi-moon?
