As the Russian journalist reports from Ukraine?

When Russia invaded Ukraine, independent Russian journalist Lily Japarova went to Ukraine to report on what was happening there, writes the BBC.

The BBC reveals that it felt compelled to report on what was happening in Ukraine. She was for a time the only Russian reporter in the Ukrainian-controlled territories.

Even today, there are only three independent media journalists – all women. This is a small contingent compared to Russian state television correspondents marching through eastern Ukraine in military clothing with “Z” inscriptions on their hands in support of Russian soldiers when it comes to “denaturing” and “liberating” a city like Mariupol, the BBC reports.

Japarova wanted to “tear down the hard wall of propaganda.”

“For now, we’re losing the war with propaganda,” Japarova said, describing that even people she knows personally are taking over the official version.

The journalist now knows that every word she writes from Ukraine – true stories about the shooting of civilians, mass graves, horrific destruction – is being prosecuted for “false news”, the BBC reports.

The Medusa news site is banned in Russia, as are almost all independent news sites. Journalists and the media are labeled “foreign agents,” but social media is blocked. Meanwhile, state television channels report on Russia’s “special operation.”
