Artist and interior designer Nikolai Drozdovsky has passed away – Arts – Culture +

The president of LMS said that Drozdovsky’s interest in visual art was aroused by the work of a designer-draftsman at the Kliment Voroshilov Higher School of Aviation Engineering. In 1961, the artist graduated from the Riga School of Applied Arts (RLMV) Room Decorator-Designer Department.

During his studies, Drozdovskis worked as an artist in the Club for the Cooperation of the Disabled and in the cinemas “Teika”, “Rīga”, where, according to the requirements, the artist’s duties included making monumental banner paintings. After graduating from RLMV, the Ministry of Culture assigned the artist to work in the cinema “Teika”.

From 1962 to 1970, Drozdovskis studied at the newly established Department of Interior and Equipment of the State Academy of Arts of the Latvian SSR and graduated with a diploma thesis “Advertising in Cinemas”. He was one of the first academically educated designers in Latvia – at the Latvian Academy of Arts, which visited the contemporary orientation and development of Latvian interior design, Dobičins emphasized.

After studying at the academy from 1967 until the liquidation of the company in 1992, Drozdovskis worked at the LMS Art Foundation’s Applied Decorative Combine “Art”. He participated in the development of interior and design projects for cultural objects and catering establishments: Daugavpils station and Riga Central station buffet interior projects, decorative painting for the cafe “Pink Sails”, LSSR Museum of Art History and Literature for the exhibition “Soviet Latvian Literature” and others.

The President of LMS emphasized that the people of Riga are recognizable by the artist’s metal letter compositions of the names of cinemas “Teika”, “Jugla”, “Daile” in the decorations of the building facades, which were also illuminated.

The artist has participated in exhibitions since 1969. Organized exhibitions in Latvia and the Czech Republic, as well as participated in many group exhibitions in Latvia, Lithuania, Russia, France, the Czech Republic. In 2003, Drozdovsky received the Masarika Academy of Arts Award and the Embassy of the Czech Republic in 2007.

Drozdovsky has been a member of the LMS Young Artists’ Association since 1971. LMS member artist has been since 1973. Artists Rolands Beitners, Aleksandrs Stankevičs and Vladimirs Bekmanis gave him recommendations to join the society.

The author used pastel, watercolor, acrylic and mixed techniques in his creative work. He also created graphics, posters, interior projects and realized them. Drozdovskis works are in the LMS Museum, Jurmala City Museum, as well as in many private collections in Latvia, the Czech Republic, the USA, Canada, France, Belgium, Finland, Italy, Germany, Great Britain and elsewhere.

Farewell to the artist Drozdovskis will take place on October 22 at 2 pm in Jurmala, Bulduri Evangelical Lutheran Church. LMS expresses its deepest condolences to the artist’s relatives and colleagues.
