Arte en Madrazo: New Conference Series by Doctor Madrazo Cultural Center from February to December

The Doctor Madrazo cultural center has scheduled a new edition of ‘Arte en Madrazo’, a cycle of 16 conferences that will take place from this Monday, February 26, until December 2.

This cycle, directed by the historian Patricia Alonso de Agustín under the motto ‘Art is well-being’, will begin this Monday, February 26, with the first of the conferences, with Lucian Freud (Berlin, 1922 – London, 2011), one of the most exceptional artists of contemporary art. They will continue on March 4 with the analysis of the exhibition ‘Maestras’, a milestone in the visibility of women in the History of Art.

Throughout this cycle, topics such as the rediscovery of El Greco at the end of the 19th century and much of the 20th century will be addressed; archetypes in the work of Edvard Munch; the emergence of the group ‘Los Realistas’ from Madrid, or the path towards post-impressionism of Anglada Camarasa, will be addressed in other conferences. We will also talk about female figures, such as Paula Modersohn and Marga Gil Roësset, or large collections such as the Royal Collections from the Austrian and Bourbon periods, among others.

Finally, Pancho Cossío, undisputed innovator of the art of the first half of the 20th century, whose birth is now 130 years old, and Francisco Iturrino, the greatest figure of Spanish Fauvism, whose centenary of his death is being celebrated, will star in the tribute to the Cantabrian artists, the City Council reported in a statement.

In this cycle, Patricia Alonso, in addition to analyzing the work of established figures and other less known ones, will introduce attendees to some of the most interesting exhibitions that have taken place, as well as the careers of some national artists and those from our region. .

She has a degree in Geography and History and a Master’s degree in Education ‘Initial Training for Secondary Education Teachers’ from the Autonomous University of Madrid. She has twenty years of experience as a lecturer, Art History teacher, museum guide, organizer of cultural activities and documentary filmmaker.

The conferences will be on Monday, starting at 7:00 p.m. and admission will be free until capacity is reached. After those on February 26 and March 4, the next appointment will be on March 25, in which Anglada Camarasa will be discussed. The next dates and their topics will be April 8 (Paula Modersohn); April 29 (Royal Collections Gallery. Los Austrias); May 6 (Gallery of the Royal Collections. The Bourbons); May 27 (Robert and Sonia Delaunay); June 3 (Francisco Iturrino. 100 years since his death), or June 24 (El Greco and the Moderns).

Already in September, on day 2 the ‘Realistas de Madrid’ will be addressed, followed on September 30 (Marga Gil Roësset and the women of 27); October 7 (Reverses); October 28 (Archetypes in the work of Edvard Munch); November 4 (Huntington and the Treasures of the Hispanic Society); November 25 (Pancho Cossío. 130 years since his birth), and December 2 (The Christmas cycle at the Prado Museum).
